Hot damn...I can't believe 2013 is upon us. Although the beginning of 2012 started out rough for me, it ended in a way I would have never imagined. At the start, I had been rejected by every school I applied to and was working internships/contract jobs that paid me just enough to get by. As the year went on, the first big shocker was me getting into UCLA Anderson.
About a month ago, another huge surprise came my way and I was given the opportunity to interview for a Strategic Marketing position with Electronic Arts. A couple of days after that interview, I was extended an offer! Holy. Shit. This was my first big break at a real marketing position and not only that, but I'd be marketing something I love...video games! After 1.5 years of busting my ass to get people to look at me as more than a public accountant, someone finally saw the marketer in me fighting to get out and gave me a real shot. So this goes to show you:
Life is shitty sometimes, but if you stay on that hustle, good things will eventually happen. Stay hungry, stay optimistic and stay on the grind until you get to where you want to be. And even when you get there, stay hungry and get better at what you do every day, stay optimistic and don't doubt whether you can handle the change and stay on the grind to be more than just good - be fucking awesome.
In a span of a year, I went from a business school reject working a PR internship for $12/hour to a UCLA Anderson MBA candidate working as a Strategic Marketing Manager for Electronic Arts.
Moral of the story is explained in the picture above. Overall, I think I'm a pretty average guy. Average intelligence, average looks and average athleticism, but my will power and optimism is definitely above average. Let your will pave the way for you and Happy New Year everyone! I hope your 2012s were as great as mine if not better and may 2013 be even more awesome.
